  • "35 under 35" -- Zero-Carbon System | UKCSAE Home

    "35 under 35" salon event- Zero-Carbon Power System was successfully held The second "35 under 35" of the UKCSAE was successfully held on October 8. The theme of this salon was zero-carbon power system. Professor Xu Hongming, chairman of the association, delivered an enthusiastic opening speech. Four special guests gave academic reports and discussions on zero-carbon power-related technologies in turn. Dr. Liu Yiran from Jaguar Land Rover hosted the event. Dr. Zhang Dong from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Brunel University in the UK shared with everyone the development and industrial application of emergency curve driving assistance systems. Dr. Zhang is currently a lecturer and assistant professor in automotive engineering, and the person in charge of the smart car and traffic control direction. The second report came from Dr. Fu Qiang, Chief Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer at Tevva New Energy Trucks. The topic of his report was "hacker attacks" against autonomous driving systems ADAS. Dr. Yuanjian Zhang from the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University in the UK shared with everyone the visual perception technology under extreme weather conditions. Dr. Zhang is currently a lecturer/assistant professor in the field of smart electric vehicles. The last guest speaker was Zhang Aobo, a system architecture research engineer. He shared how the new generation of electronic and electrical architecture enables autonomous driving applications. After the report, guests and online audiences had a wonderful discussion on autonomous driving technology. The event was strongly supported by the association's partner Gasgoo and attracted more than 12,000 online viewers. The "35 under 35" series of technique salon aims to provide a platform for young talents to showcase themselves, and to share their experiences and insights in study, research and work with members and colleagues.     2020 Annual Conference of UKCSAE was successfully held online The Annual Conference of the UK Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers (UKCSAE) was successfully held online on Saturday 31st, October 2020, with participants including nearly 500 elites in the automotive industry from China, the UK and other countries. China and the UK have profound background for cooperation in the automotive sector. The Annual Conference featured an in-depth focus on two hot topics, automotive digitalization future and new energy vehicle development trend, aiming at facilitating the communication between automotive engineers from China and the UK, as well as accelerating the cooperation between the two countries. As the President of UKCSAE, Professor Hongming Xu, Head of Vehicle and Engine Technology Center in the University of Birmingham, extended warm welcome and gratitude to all the guests for their attendance and support. He then made a brief review of the Society’s work in the past year. Minister Councillor for Science and Technology of the Chinese Ambassy in the UK, Mr. Sunan Jiang, conveyed sincere congratulations to UKCSAE on behalf of the Ambassy for successfully holding the Annual Conference. As one of the leading powers in global automotive technology development, the UK automotive industry communicates and cooperates closely with its Chinese counterpart. The two governments have reached a high level of consensus in their close cooperation in the science and technology sector, which will be conducive to the achievement of carbon neutrality. The Chinese Ambassy in the UK welcomes and fully supports the communication and cooperation between automotive engineers from both countries. China Business Advisor David Gregory from China-British Business Council( CBBC) reviewed the role CBBC had played in facilitating the cooperation and communication between Chinese and British automotive industries, a course that CBBC, as a non-profitable organization, had always been committed to. The 2020 Annual Conference of UKCSAE also provided an ideal platform for automotive engineers from the two countries to communicate and cooperate. The Director of the Advanced Propulsion Center (APC) Technology Center Julian Hetherington talked about the automotive electrification plan in the UK. One of the key projects was the integration of production and research in new automotive technology development by setting up a special fund, and he shared relevant experience with us. Vice President Michael Miller from New Energy Vehicles analyzed the technology and development of new energy vehicles and painted a bright picture of the outlook. Head of Research Dr Mike Bassett from MAHLE Powertrain Ltd. Global provided some valuable insights into specialized high-efficiency internal combustion engine for PHEV. Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering, Acting Vice Provost & Dean of College of Brunel University London, Professor Hua Zhao, analyzed the future development of engine technologies as well as technologies for zero-emission engines and the corresponding fuel. CEO of Gasgoo International Ms Tina Zhou analyzed the newly published Technology Roadmap for Energy Conservation and New Energy Vehicles, and provided her vision about the development trend of future automotive industry from the economic and market perspectives. Other extinguished guest speakers include: CEO of FISITA Chris Mason, President of China-SAE Professor Jun Li, General Manager of Cummins Inc. Mr. Mark O’Conner, Director of First Automobile Works Mr. Jincheng Li, Technical Director of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Dr. Zheng Xu, Chief Engineer of Dongfeng Motor Corporation Dr. Shemin Zhang, President of Association of British-Chinese Professors Professor Jianguo Lin, President of Chinesische Gesellschaft für Maschinenwesen und Elektrotechnik in Deutschland e. V. (CGME) Mr Shicheng Zhang, President of Association des Ingénieurs Chinois de l'Automobile en France (AICAF) Mr Shanjin Wang and President of Promotion Association for Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Autria and China (PASCO) Mr Junwei Jiang. The Conference was hosted by the Secretary General and Vice President of UKCSAE, Dr Huayin Tang, and the Vice President and Head of External Relations of UKCSAE, Shiru Song. The penal discussion about automotive digitalization was hosted by the Vice President and Head of Organization Department Dr. Chunxing Lin and Dr. Ran Bao. Other than the well-known technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI) , there are many areas of application for all aspects of automotive product development. Digitalization in automotive engineering can be utilized to improve research and development efficiency, lower the development cost and enhance the quality as well as user experience. The penal discussion about new energy vehicles was hosted by Dr. Huayin Tang and Professor Yue Guo. The development trend of new energy vehicles has been the topic of the automotive industry in recent years, covering different aspects including performance, user experience, security, range and accessible charging as well as different choices and trade-offs. The experts discussed possible development priorities such as HEV and electronic structures based on their adaptation to future user scenarios. The conference has been supported by the following organizations and sponsors. We would like to thank all of their great support for making this meeting a success. Dr. Chunxing Lin and Shiru Song provided further details about the past, present and future of UKCSAE. UKCSAE had already held 7 online technical symposiums before the annual conference, with the total number of participants adding up to over 1300. There are nearly 400 members in the Society, including Chinese professionals from OEMs, consulting corporations, universities and research institutes in the British automotive industry. In addition, the Society participated in fund-raising for Wuhan at the beginning of this year. The Covid-19 outbreak in the UK also raised concern among our compatriots in China, and UKCSAE distributed protective materials including more than 8000 masks to the overseas Chinese in the UK. Moreover, the Society also invited two medical experts from Wuhan and Manchester to give online speeches about disease prevention. As a platform between Chinese people living in China and the UK, the Society played a positive role in enhancing their connections. Dr. Huayin Tang laid out further outlines of UKCSAE’s future development, pointing out that the online symposium would serve as a start for a series of online activities and technical communications co-hosted with counterpart organizations in Germany, France and Austria.     The first "Online Technical Forum" of the Society of Chinese Automotive Engineers in the UK in 2024 was successfully held The "Online Technology Forum" of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers was successfully held on May 18. This event is the first online technology forum held in 2024. The themes of this forum cover fuel cell technology, autonomous driving and connected car technology. Professor Xu Hongming, chairman of the association, delivered an enthusiastic opening speech. Four special guests gave academic reports and discussions in turn, and Dr. Li Ji from the University of Birmingham hosted the event. Dr. Shangfeng Du from the University of Birmingham shared with everyone the electrochemical engineering innovations of high-performance fuel cell electrodes. Dr. Du graduated from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is currently an associate professor at the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. His research interests include materials, components and equipment for low-temperature fuel cells and water electrolyzers. Dr. Duan Yu from Changan Automobile shared with everyone the overview of Changan Automobile's fuel cell technology development. Dr. Duan graduated from the University of Nottingham in the UK and is currently a power system control software and fuel cell expert at Changan UK's Birmingham R&D Center. His research direction is advanced fuel cell stack online water management technology using DC/DC converters. Dr. Wei Chongfeng from Queen's University shared the latest research progress in Europe and Queen's University on intelligent driving under social interaction awareness. Dr. Wei graduated from the University of Birmingham in the UK and is currently a lecturer at Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on human-source connectivity and autonomous vehicles, as well as the dynamics and control of intelligent mechanical systems. Dr. Song Xiulan from Zhejiang University of Technology shared her research work on safety control of connected vehicles in complex communication environments. Dr. Song graduated from Zhejiang University of Technology and is currently an associate professor at the School of Information Engineering of Zhejiang University of Technology. Since 2023, she has been a visiting scholar at the University of Birmingham in the UK, with her main research directions being multimedia wireless communications and intelligence. After the report, the guests and online audiences had a wonderful discussion on related topics. Professor Xu Hongming, Chairman of the Association, gave a closing speech.     "35 under 35" salon event-Virtual Simulation was successfully held The new "35 under 35" event of the Society of Chinese Automotive Engineers of the UK was successfully held on September 29, 2024. The theme of this salon event is virtual simulation, focusing on the application of advanced virtual simulation technology in modern automobile development. Professor Xu Hongming, Chairman of the Society of Chinese Automotive Engineers in the UK, delivered an opening speech at the event, introduced the significance of the "35 under 35" event, and elaborated on the important role of virtual simulation in automotive technology innovation. In this salon, four special guests delivered academic reports in turn, discussing the latest applications and developments of virtual simulation technology in intelligent driving and new energy vehicle development. This salon event was hosted by Wang Hetian, a doctoral student of WMG at the University of Warwick. The sharing content of the guests was in-depth and wonderful, and the discussion session interacted with the audience enthusiastically, providing a professional and in-depth academic exchange platform for online audiences. First, Dr. Xu Yipeng from the University of Liverpool shared with everyone "Intelligent decision-making algorithms to achieve refined charging management of electric vehicles". Dr. Xu Yipeng is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Liverpool, UK, and is mainly engaged in the management of flexible resources on the power demand side such as electric vehicles. Dr. Xu introduced the severe challenges facing the power system power balance in the context of the construction of a new power system, and elaborated on the flexible energy storage opportunities created by electric vehicles as a new type of flexible and adjustable load in the current environment, and discussed in depth the large-scale real-time charging management strategy of electric vehicles based on the learnable long-term and short-term impact balance. The second report came from Dr. Kong Yan, a postdoctoral researcher at Brunel University London. Dr. Kong Yan's research areas mainly involve data-driven control and multi-vehicle collaborative control. The theme of this report is "Vehicle Cooperative Optimization Base on Date-driven Control". Dr. Kong Yan introduced the vehicle optimization control method and demonstrated how to achieve the balance and optimization of multiple goals such as driving safety, energy management, and driving comfort in different driving scenarios. He also introduced a framework for multi-vehicle collaborative optimization and explored how to achieve collaborative optimization of regional traffic and energy through vehicle networking technology. Afterwards, He Xu, a doctoral student in mechanical engineering at the University of Birmingham, shared his experience on the topic of "The significance and application of virtual simulation in human-machine co-driving technology". He Xu's main research direction is data-driven modeling and optimization control of human-machine co-driving frameworks. He is also a member of the CASE Vehicle Education and Research Center at the University of Birmingham. In this sharing session, the role of virtual simulation in promoting the development of human-machine collaborative driving systems was discussed. Through virtual simulation technology, human-machine co-driving systems can be tested in a safe environment, reducing development costs and accelerating design iterations. The last guest speaker was Yi Xiao, a PhD student from the University of Glasgow. His topic was "Graph Spatial-temporal Networks Based Decision Making for Automated Vehicles". Yi Xiao graduated from Tongji University with a bachelor's degree in Vehicle Service Engineering and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow. He is currently studying at the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow. His main research areas include planning and control of autonomous vehicles, and he focuses on the application of graph neural networks in the prediction and planning of social behaviors of vehicles. After the report, the guests and online audiences had a wonderful discussion on the development and prospects of virtual simulation and digital twin technology in the fields of new energy vehicles and autonomous driving, and gave professional insights into the multi-angle questions raised by the online audience.
